Watch for fluctuating water pressure, especially sudden changes when you turn faucets on or off. Listen for banging or hammering sounds in your pipes, which indicates pressure spikes.
Check for leaking faucets, running toilets, or appliances that seem to work harder than normal. If your water pressure gauge reads above 80 PSI or below 40 PSI, your regulator isn’t working properly.
Most regulators last 10-15 years, but mountain properties with hard water and seasonal use patterns may need replacement sooner. When in doubt, have it tested professionally.
